Minneapolis emcee Prof (born Jacob “Jake” Anderson) has been quietly building his own lane in hip-hop for nearly two decades. Raised in the Powderhorn neighborhood of South Minneapolis, he first adopted the alter-ego “Gampo” — a playful, salty persona that remains woven into his artistic DNA.

What sets Prof apart is his blend of brash humor, self-awareness, and gritty storytelling. He alternates between high-voltage party fare — where he displays nimble wordplay and swagger — and more introspective cuts that admit vulnerability and struggle. His production palette draws on funk, electronic, and rock textures, giving his bars room to breathe
Over that time, Prof has released a string of projects that chart his evolution. His early releases include Project Gampo (2007) and Recession Music (2009), followed by King Gampo in 2011, and then his signing to Rhymesayers yielded Liability in 2015, which cracked the Billboard 200.
But after parting ways with Rhymesayers in 2020, he reasserted his independence with Powderhorn Suites, which peaked at #36 on the Billboard 200. Wikipedia+1 His boldest mainstream move to date came with Horse (2023) — a record that enlisted collaborators like Method Man, Kevin Gates, and Redman — and earned substantial chart traction across hip-hop, emerging artist, and independent rankings.

Currently, Prof is on the road with his “Dirty Work” tour (Leg 2), stopping in cities like Dallas (Bomb Factory), Austin (Emo’s), Albuquerque (Revel), and more. Prof Website (Copy)+1 This run caps off a run of over 40 largely sold‐out dates in 2024, during which he moved through venues such as Showbox SODO, The Rave II, The Orange Peel, and Newport Music Hall.
